Of all the things to go viral from this year’s Love Island, we wouldn’t have thought it would be a simple lipstick colour. But here we are, seeing Faye Winter’s brown lipstick and lipliner become the talking point of Twitter.
The 26 year old has garnered attention thanks to her combination of brown liner and a pinky brown lipstick, a duo she’s been favouring since the very start of the series.
Since '90s beauty trends are well and truly having a resurgence, we think Faye’s shade choice is quite on point, but others are taking a bit more convincing.
“I adore her commitment to the lipstick. Adore it. 24/7, rain, hail, or shine,” one Twitter user quips, while another notes: “I want someone to love me as much as Faye loves that lipstick combo.”
“If I type in Faye and lipstick on Twitter, the actual number of tweets I find on the subject FLOORS me,” a third says.
There’s only been one occasion where Faye swapped her lip colour, and it was on episode 14 where she went for a soft, glossy pink. Twitter naturally had a lot to say on the subject, with one raving that “Faye looked so pretty in a natural pink yesterday.”
We love that the lettings manager has found a combination she feels comfortable in, but we wonder if she’ll be expanding her repertoire to feature some other hues while she’s in the villa. A block red would look killer against her bronzed complexion.
Either way, we aren’t canceling a brown or neutral hue round here, and we strongly believe that anyone can suit a muted shade as long as they pick the right tone and formula for their skin type.
To help you find your perfect match, we spoke to the experts at Bobbi Brown to get their top tips on finding a perfect neutral colour…
Step one: decipher your skin’s undertone
How? There are a few simple tricks to identify if you are cool, neutral or warm.
Your skin and the sun.
First is knowing how your skin reacts to the sun. If you have a cool undertone, you may burn easily and perhaps find you need to apply sunscreen more often. If you tan easily and rarely burn, then you are likely to have a warm undertone. If you burn then tan, you’re probably neutral.
Jewellery: silver or gold?
The second is jewellery. Many people are more attracted to either silver or gold jewellery because of the way it looks against their skin. If you wear gold, you’re more likely to have warm undertones. Silver tends to look more flattering on cooler undertones, and if you are a neutral undertone you look great in either.
Step two: find your hue
Now all you need is your perfect shade match.
If you have a cool undertone, choose anything with a blue or purple base. You can enhance your natural lip colour with a rose pink or pinky mauve.
