My ex broke up with me to be on his own but he is out with his mates all the time

DEAR DEIDRE: MY ex broke up with me a month ago, saying he wanted to be on his own. I would believe that – if he wasn’t out with his mates all the time.

I’m really worried about him. He has longstanding mental health issues and lately they seem to have come back with a vengeance. I am a girl of 22 and he’s 23.

He spends no time on his own, or at his own house. I’ve tried calling him a few times and he either doesn’t answer or he’s rude and cold towards me. I wonder if he regrets ending our relationship and that’s why he’s suffering so much.

DEIDRE SAYS: I am afraid that is wishful thinking. Time spent with his mates is “on his own” in the sense that he’s not in a relationship.

If he had regrets about his decision to break up, he’d say so. He sounds to be trying to cut off completely in order to move on.

I’m sorry, but my e-leaflet Mending Your Broken Heart will help you move on too.
