Due to a shortage of staff and an increase in demand as Christmas approaches, Royal Mail is experiencing delays with deliveries. The company has updated customers on which areas in the country are affected.

Royal Mail explained on its website that it operates an air, rail, and road network to move letters and parcels between its distribution hubs, mail processing centres, and delivery offices around the UK.

The company’s air and road networks operated on time over the past 24 hours.

However, its rail network experienced technical issues.

This delayed the arrival of a train carrying mail from Warrington Rail Terminal to the Scottish Distribution Centre.

As a result, some mail posted in other parts of the UK yesterday, due for delivery today in parts of Scotland, may arrive later than expected.

Some mail centres across the country reported that not all mail was processed or despatched on time over the past 24 hours, resulting in delayed deliveries.

The mail centres affected are below.

Bristol Mail Centre: Some mail posted yesterday in other parts of the UK for delivery today in the BA, BS, GL and TA postcode areas.

Exeter Mail Centre: Some mail posted yesterday in other parts of the UK for delivery today in the EX and TQ postcode areas.

Chelmsford Mail Centre: Some mail posted yesterday in other parts of the UK for delivery today in the CM, CO and SS postcode areas.

Chester Mail Centre: Some mail posted yesterday in other parts of the UK for delivery today in the CH, LL and SY postcode areas.

Home Counties North Mail Centre: Some mail posted yesterday in other parts of the UK for delivery today in the AL, EN, HP, LU, SG and WD postcode areas.

Norwich Mail Centre: Some mail posted yesterday in other parts of the UK for delivery today in the IP and NR postcode areas.

Southampton Mail Centre: Some mail posted yesterday in other parts of the UK for delivery today in the PO, SO and SP postcode areas.

South Midlands Mail Centre: Some mail posted yesterday in other parts of the UK for delivery today in the CV, LE, MK and NN postcode areas.

Warrington Mail Centre: Some mail posted yesterday in other parts of the UK for delivery today in the CW, L, WA and WN postcode areas.

Nottingham Mail Centre: Some mail posted yesterday in in the DE and NG postcode areas for delivery today in other parts of the UK.

As for deliveries today, Royal Mail said they are operating as normal across most of the country.

However, some offices are impacted by Covid-related issues, meaning delays are likely in some parts of Britain.

On its website, Royal Mail stated: “We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week.

“In a small number of local offices this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as Covid-related self isolation, high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors.

“In those cases we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers.”
