Robert Downey Jr. continues to be a major source of support for Armie Hammer amid his ongoing scandal, Page Six has learned.
Vanity Fair reported Downey, 57, footed the bill for Hammer’s Florida rehab stint last year. Now sources tell us that Hammer has been shacking up in one of Downey Jr.’s “extra houses.”
The “Call Me By Your Name” actor, 36, has been spotted around Venice, Calif.
“He’s sober and has been spending a lot of time with good friends and with his kids,” the source said.
Reps for the stars did not get back to us about Hammer’s whereabouts — or what role recovering addict Downey Jr. has in his life as he fights to clear his name.
On Friday, Discovery + premiered its new docuseries, “House of Hammer,” about the disgraced star’s scandal and the hidden skeletons of his family dynasty.
Armie is the great-grandson of the late billionaire oil tycoon Armand Hammer.
Page Six confirmed Armie is under investigation by the LAPD after filmmakers told us a Los Angeles prosecutor is “specially assigned” to look over rape claims from an ex-lover named Effie.
“I thought he was going to kill me,” she said in 2017 after claiming he violently raped her for four hours in LA.
Hammer has denied all allegations and has said sex between the alleged victims was consensual. A spokesman for the LA County’s DA office told us “a specially assigned prosecutor is working with law enforcement as they continue their investigation.”
Meanwhile, Hammer’s estranged aunt, Casey Hammer, 61, consulted on the doc and is featured prominently. She told us she believes the victims and wants “to help build a community and let them feel safe.”
Hammer has yet to speak out publicly about the doc, but sources believe “he is plotting a comeback.”
“The Hammer machine is in full effect,” one industry source said, referring to his Hollywood connections, as well as his wealthy family and friends.
“He’s waiting for the claims to go away. He can’t do anything until that’s done,” they concluded.
