'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse': When Is Part 2 Coming Out?
After Sony released footage from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One), fans are more excited for the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse than ever before. And to add to the excitement, Sony announced alongside the first look at Part One that Part Two is currently in the works.
Sony announces that ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part Two)’ is in development
After fans learned the name of the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel, they immediately zeroed in on the “Part One” aspect of the title. Because if a film has “Part One” in its name, it’s automatically assumed that there will be a part two.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) writers Phil Lord and Chris Miller revealed, “Miles’ story is an epic. We wrote what we thought the story needed to be, and to our surprise, we realized it was two movies instead of one. We’re working on them both as we speak. Part Two will be out sometime in 2023. We will sleep again in 2024.”
With the popularity of the first movie, it’s no surprise that a third one is in the works before the second one even comes out. And, thankfully, fans won’t have to wait very long for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part Two). As Lord and Miller said, the second sequel will arrive only a year after the first one premieres on Oct. 7, 2022.
Miles reunites with Gwen in the first footage from ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One)’
Before we can start theorizing about Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part Two), we must first experience Part One. And if the first look is any indication of the sequel’s ambition, then fans are in for a treat.
In the clip, Miles is in bed listening to “Sunflower” by Post Malone and Swae Lee, of course. Gwen drops in from her universe and convinces Miles to sneak out. Then, we see Miles traveling between dimensions, where Spider-Man 2099 drops in and attacks him. They fight one another as they jump from universe to universe.
Lord and Miller described how they managed to create multiple universes in the sequel. They told Entertainment Weekly, “Every dimension looks and feels radically different from all the others. They all look like they were drawn by a different artist.”
Everything we know about the two sequels
As of this writing, only three Spider-People are confirmed to appear in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One). Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, and Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’Hara will appear in the first sequel.
In regards to what Miles has been up to since the first movie, Lord and Miller revealed, “He’s been trying to step into big shoes. Realizing it’s not so easy to juggle family and growing as a spider-person, and that it’s lonely hiding the truth about yourself from the people you love.”
In the film, Miles joins Gwen on a journey across the Spider-Verse, where they “reunite with some old friends and meet … a lot of new ones,” according to Lord and Miller. They will all join forces to fight a powerful villain. However, the identity of the said villain is unknown.
As for Part Two, we can only assume and speculate about who appears and what the plot will entail. Since it is a second part, we imagine that it will relate to the events of the first sequel. But that’s almost a given.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) releases in theaters on Oct. 7, 2022. And Part Two will premiere in 2023.
