Taraji P. Henson talks diversity, family films and going vegan to avoid ‘stomach cancer’

Taraji P. Henson is a bona fide star. But the actress says Hollywood has not always seen her that way. 

Despite nailing dramatic roles in films “Hidden Figures” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” Henson says her portrayal of sharp-talking Cookie Lyon in Fox’s “Empire” put her on the map. 

“Hollywood executives would tell me that I don’t have fans all the way over there,” Henson told InStyle in her cover story for January’s issue. “Then we go to Paris (to promote “Empire”), and it’s standing room only in a room with 1,500 seats. I cried … you can’t let people tell you (expletive).”
