Best things to see and do on Hvar
1. Hvar Town
Hvar Town is where you'll want to head if you're short on time and want to make the most of the sights and nightlife.
For history buffs the breathtaking cathedral of St Stephen's needs to be on the itinerary with its intricate baroque architecture (the surrounding square is also great if you're after a bit of hustle and bustle), or the hilltop Hvar Fort which makes for a brilliant viewing point on the island.
The town itself makes for a picturesque stroll too thanks to the eye-catching buildings, waterfront promenade and quirky local shops and restaurants to be found.
3. Pakleni Islands
If you are looking to do some exploring while you're visiting, then a boat trip to the nearby Pakleni Islands is sure to satisfy that wanderlust.
These deserted lagoons sit a short boat ride away from Hvar's harbour and offer up some idyllic crystal-clear waters whether you want to go snorkelling, take in the views or simply want a bit of adventure.
3. The beaches
Hvar offers a mix of sandy and pebbled shores, all of which can be found a short walk from the luxury resorts and hotels.
Think everything from hidden coves waiting to be discovered, to sandy stretches right by crystalline, swim-friendly waters.
Hotspots include the likes of Dubovica Beach, Pokonji Dol Beach, Mlini Beach and Ivan Dolac Beach.
4. The nightlife
If it's the nightlife you're after then you'll want to plan a trip between June and September.
Peak season is when you'll find countless parties across the bustling bars and clubs. Meanwhile, the marina has more of a laidback vibe if you're after great food and cocktails.
5. Lavender fields
Hvar is known for its breathtaking lavender offering, with heaps of the island covered in these breathtaking purple flowers.
You can take dedicated tours of the lavender fields and distilleries if you're after a quirky way to while away a few hours, while also learning all about the culture and heritage of the region.
