From light displays to Christmas markets, London is home to a wide array of attractions to help you get into the festive spirit – including an impressive collection of ice rinks.

While skating may not be an exclusively Christmassy activity, London’s pop-up ice rinks are typically adorned with countless fairy lights and festive decorations, making a trip to the rink the perfect way to celebrate the season with friends and family (even if you’re more of a shuffler than a glider).  

And with loads of brilliant ice-skating rinks popping up across the capital – including a brand-new one at the recently opened Battersea Power Station – there are plenty of options to choose from.

• Glide at Battersea Power Station

  As part of its first Christmas season, the newly opened Battersea Power Station will have its very own ice rink. Hosted by the team behind the Natural History Museum’s once-iconic rink (it’s now closed), Glide will consist of three interconnected rinks surrounded by fairy lights, all of which will look over the Thames.

• Queen’s House Ice Rink

  Potentially the most beautiful skating option in the city, this ice rink is situated in front of the Queen’s House, a UNESCO world heritage site in Greenwich, south London. With a large rink to enjoy and a Benugo catering stall offering a range of winter warmers, the Queen’s House Ice Rink is the perfect skating spot for people looking for a more refined or romantic experience.

  Dates: 17 November 2022 – 8 January 2023.

• Skylight Rooftop

  Europe’s only rooftop ice rink is returning to London once again this Christmas at Skylight Rooftop, giving skaters an incredible view over the capital’s skyline. While this rink may not be as big as some of the others on offer, visitors will be able to enjoy a range of cocktails under the heated pergola next to the rink. Just book a table and then pay for your tickets to go ice skating once you arrive.

  Dates: 28 October 2022 – January 2023.

• Skate at Somerset House

  One of the most iconic ice skating rinks in London is back for 2022 in partnership with Moët & Chandon. Accompanied by a 40ft Christmas tree, a range of delicious food and drink and contemporary music, Somerset House’s rink offers something for everyone.

• Hyde Park Winter Wonderland Ice Rink
